Eight different players scored for Calvert Hall as the Cardinals topped visiting Loyola (4-14, 1-9, 1-8)  57-53 in MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League on Friday night.

The Cardinals (11-11, 6-5 MIAA, 3-6 BCL) got clutch shooting from Wesley Blackwell, Sean Mayberry and Reggie Rouse to offset another big night from Loyola’s Mitch Cross.

Blackwell hit three three-pointers in the second quarter, when the Cardinals took a 34-28 lead, and Mayberry garnered eight third quarter points to keep the Cards in control.  Loyola’s Ryan Fields had seven third quarter points that kept the Dons within striking distance.

Rouse hit two second half treys, and the flashy sophomore finished with 11 points to go with Mayberry’s 12, and Blackwell’s 11.  Drew Edwards who hit a trey with four seconds left in regulation at Loyola that gave the Hall a 56-53 win over the Dons in an earlier match-up last month, added eight.

Loyola (4-14, 1-9 MIAA, 1-8 BCL) got within five points on a bucket by Billy Plunkett late in the fourth, but Rouse answered with a three at the two minute mark to give the Hall an eight point lead that was enough to secure the win.

Cross led all scorers with 21, Fields had 11 and Plunkett added 10 for Loyola.

“The young guys are starting to step up and make some plays,” said Hall coach John Bauersfeld.

Bauersfeld said that his team is starting to put something together, with wins this week over McDonogh and Glenelg Country School in A Conference action.
