The PSA is paid for by is paid for by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which was founded by New York City’s Michael Bloomberg and Boston’s Thomas Menino.

The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary has fired up the issue of gun control and gun rights in this country. President Barak Obama has made a vow to get gun control reforms in place and it seems this issue, seemingly widely favored by the public, is now being pushed using sports figures.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns is an organization that support what they consider smart gun control measures. Their website states the organization ”advocates for common-sense measures that will close deadly gaps in our gun laws and make sure law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to detect and deter gun trafficking.”

What do you think about the athlete’s participation? Do you think athletes should make a formal stance on controversial social issues?
