According to a report from Y! Sports, recently retired NBA point guard Jason Kidd has emerged as a strong candidate to land the head coaching position for the Brooklyn Nets:

Nets ownership has told league associates that it wants a “fresh face,” as coach, and the hiring of Kidd would give them a star quality that comes with significant risk for a franchise with a mandate to complete for championships in the short term.

Talks on a possible contract for Kidd are under way, sources said.

Kidd, who was no coaching experience whatsoever, played the 2012-2013 season with the New York Knicks and averaged six points and 4.3 assists in 76 games. Kidd, who is now 40, starred for the then-New Jersey Nets from 2001-2007 and led them to the NBA Finals in back to back seasons from 2001-2003.

We’ll update with further details as they become available.
